Digital Two for Tuesay 45

This week we have two images from The Little Book House Volume 6 A Bigger World first published in 1920.  I got 6 of these volumes last week at the flea market and could not wait to share.  Our guest designer this week is Helen.  This is the 2nd time that Helen is hosting and she has not let us down.  Helen has created two beautiful projects.  I love her coloring technique and the paper she has chosen for accents.  I know her work will be an inspiration to all of you to take the challenge.  Here is a description of her cards in her own words.

"I am so glad that Cora asked me to do another project for her. She has such beautiful images. I really hope I did these justice. I have a blog it is at http://tomorrowstreasure.blogspot.com I also have a challenge blog you can get to from that site.
I thought the Queen was perfect for a mom's day card, or to a friend, or your daughter. For A birthday or... She is so beautiful and I wanted her to come to life. I thought the black with colors would work. The two on the horse was really fun to do also. I was thinking like the white horse nursery rhyme- "to see a fine lady upon a h white horse" it is a really nice image to work with. Thanks Cora for such great images and for being able to show them.
To do these projects I used mark-its and color pencils with OMS. DP is DCWV, CS is The Angel Company.
Thanks! This is my blog http://tomorrowstreasure.blogspot.com/ "

Digital Two For Tuesday 44

This week's images are from and old magazine from the early 1900's.  I originally copies them and made them into stamps to use for my acrlic stamp line Clearly Vintage but decided not to include them.  I just love the details in these girls.  Our innovative guest designer Jodi Clausen has created for us two wonderful cards using the images.  I love her choice of papers and the flower accents.  These details really highlight these delicate images.  You can see more of Jodi's designs at her blog Reflectionz in Paper & Ink

I hope you take the challenge this week and create something.  Please remember to share your project in the comments section of this post so we can all enjoy what you create.

Digital Two for Tuesday 43

This week we have a treat.  Lorraine is our guest hostess again this week.  She is from the UK and has been papercrafting for over 5 years. I just love her creativity and the way she uses printed papers in her designs. I know I say every week that our guest hostesses amaze me with what they make out of the images but it is true.  My favorite thing is to see the designs before everyone else.  You can see more or Lorraine's work on her blog Coldwaters2

Digital Two for Tuesday 42

Welcome to Digital Two for Tuesday.  The digital challenge site.  Each week we post two images for you to play with and hopefully share your projects with the group.  There are almost 300 followers of this site now and I am amazed at how much we have grown in such a short time.
The images this week are from The Designer magazine August 1901.  It is one of my favorite magazine's I own.  The Designer was put out by Standard Fashion Company in NYC.

This week's guest designer is Petra.  She has given us two beautiful project to inspire us to take the challenge.  I love the vintage feel of her work.  Here is a bio and description of her projects in her own words. "Hi, I am Petra and being a bit of a craft addict I immensely enjoy anything to do with crafting. But only about two years ago almost by accident I discovered vintage images and the art of altering images digitally ... and I love it! Thank you so much to Cora for giving me the chance to be this week's guest designer. Cora's images are always truly amazing and this week is no exception but I must admit that they proved to be a real challenge for me.

The Sailing Lady turned into a Travel Tag: I stripped the image of the Sailing Lady leaving just the woman, the rail and life belt, and layered it digitally with a boat scenery and lots of suitcases.

To make sure that everybody knows that she has gone fishing, I made a door or wall hanger 'I am fishing'. This time the image has been left unchanged. I coloured it with chalks, colour pencils and Copics and gave it a frame. If you would like to know all details of this projects, you are very welcome to visit my blog post at //kunterbuntcottage.blogspot.com/ "

Digital Two For Tuesday 41

Well this week's hostess Peggy is an amazing digital and paper artist.  She takes digital images and works them on the computer into beautiful digital pieces of art.  I feel very fortunate to have her talent add a different dimension to these vintage digital images.  Peggy is one of the regulars here on Digital Two for Tuesday.  I often am amazed by how she has manipulated the images on the computer.  Believe it or not I am not extremely computer literate.  Like most of you I print the images and use them just like I would a stamp.  I hope her work inspires you to try something different.  Won't you take the challenge.  Make sure to share your creation with all of us in the comments section of this post.  Here is Peggy's take on her artwork.  "Art has become for me "therapy". I can celebrate happy occasions or work through sad or difficult times by creating art. I love creating special art for others. I often use old family pictures in my pieces and feel good about giving them birth again. I love to laugh,am very sentimental, and cry more happy tears than sad ones. Loyality, honesty, and sharing good things with others is important to me. I enjoy seeing all the new art of artists friends and am learning something new every day! Laughing makes better wrinkles on your face! I love to try new techniques!"  You can see more of her work on her blog http://wwwpeggysamusement.blogspot.com/ .

For those of you who would like to see different images this is the last set from the new baby book.  Next week we will have some beautiful vintage women.

Digital Two for Tuesday 40

Wow! I can't believe we are up to challenge number 40.  Who would have thought in such a short time I would have 276 followers and 44,000 hits.  Thank you all for your enthusiasm that inspires me to keep posting.  Even though I have been traveling a lot for business with the help of my amazing guest designers I am able to post a fresh new look each week.  I couldn't do it with out them.
This week's digital images are from the same baby book from last week. The instructions for taking care of your child would get you arrested now a days.  My favorite is leaving your child outside by themselves for a little sun.  You can get your chores done while they nap in the sun. I guess they weren't as worried about predetors back then.
This week's guest designer is Shelly.  She has designed two beautiful cards.  She did not color the images but added red accents to make her cards pop.  They are truly inspirations.  I hope you will be inspired to take the challenge this week and show us what you can do with the images.  Remember to post your project in the comments section of this post.  You can see more of Shelly's beautiful designs at her blog http://jaspere-jaspereslittlecorner.blogspot.com/ .

Digital Two for Tuesday Challenge 39

This weeks images are from a book called Your Baby's Care from 1936.  It is a book the hospital gave to new parents.  It is loaded with information on how to take care of your baby.  Pearls like this "Give the infant 1/2 a teaspoon of cod liver oil 2x a day starting at 2-3 weeks".  I'm glad my mom did not believe in this one.  Yuk!  This week we are lucky to have as guest hostess is Fany.  Besides making beautiful cards she is an amazing illustrator who shares who illustrations on her blog.  She has created for us two lovely cards.  You can see more of Fany's work on her blog http://laboiteasurprisedefany.blogspot.com/ .  I hope you are inspired by Fany and take the challenge this week and use these images to create something wonderful!
Here are descriptions of the cards by Fany.  "I did give the Spring one, kind of retro 1950 vibe. I used copic for coloring, the paper and some of the trinkets where making memories, plus bits and pieces I have in my surprise box.

The blue one is more vintage.  I used paper from Fancy pant and October afternoon, coloring with copic. And again trinket from my surprise box, like old jewelry bits and pieces. I used the technique paper piecing, on the stroller."

Digital Two for Tuesday 38

This week we have two more images from the John Martin The Child's Magazine from Feb 1929. I am just loving these images. They are so much fun to use. This week our guest hostess is Melisa. Melisa has created two beautiful cards. She has an incredible eye for detail and she uses color to add dimension to her work. I love the word art she has added to bring the images to life. Here is her bio in her own words "Hello Everyone! I’m Melisa (Me - Lisa) and I’m thrilled to be a guest designer this week for Digital Two For Tuesday! I started scrapbooking approximately 12 yrs ago. Through scrapbooking I was introduced to stamping. I enjoyed using them soooo much I started venturing into card making. I started stamping and card making regularly approximately 2 ½ years ago. I am blessed with 6 girlfriends who are crazy about stamping as well and we meet-up frequently to get crafty. I enjoy trying different styles and types of projects, beyond card making. I love using my stamps for scrapbooking, home décor, ATC’s, inchies, and other types of altered pieces. I have several blogs to organize my art, but my primary is http://melisawaldorf.blogspot.com. I would love to have you stop by for a visit sometime!

I was so delighted when Cora sent me these adorable images in the mail. While I have found a love for vintage over the past year, I haven't spent alot of time creating with children. So it was wonderful to create something that was definitely different for me. I hope you enjoy these and are inspired to use Cora's wonderful vintage images!"

Digital Two for Tuesday 37

We are expecting snow again today. So I thought I would warm up your day with two beautiful images of children cooking. They are both from a vintage magazine from the 20's. Our guest designer this week Maxine has done an amazing job working with these images. Her playful style mixed with vintage is an award winning look. I hope you will be inspired to take part in this weeks challenge and use one of these images in one of your projects. Please make sure you post a link in the comments section so we can all enjoy you work.
Here is Maxine our guest designer's bio in her own words.
"From a very young age I have been interesting in 'making things' - this was channeled into sewing as I grew up, specifically tailoring, making all my own clothes, and then sewing for the family when they arrived, this also included embroidery where appropriate on the clothing. Later I took up embroidery to a much greater degree, then changed tack and started to make bobbin lace in addition to knitted and crocheted lace.

I first started stamping ten years ago when a friend introduced me to the craft as part of her launching a stamp making company. I had a few lessons from her, and then puddled, along pretty much on my own, using magazines and the occasional stamp or craft show for instruction and inspiration for the next eight years. Then I found Splitcoast Stampers and we got broadband, and the revolution started! It is very interesting seeing how my card making has evolved as I have kept a fairly comprehensive gallery of my work on the computer - I cringe when I look at some of my early cards!

I am basically a CAS card maker, but can add the layers and embellishments when I am in the mood.

Cora said that she gives us images to work outside our comfort zones. I enjoy a challenge so I was not unduly worried, until these images arrived. I realised then that I have not had 'people images' in my cards other than one stamp image that I have!! I find it is better not to try and work on a challenge immediately, so I let my mind 'simmer' over them for a while, then inspiration finally arrived!

I coloured the images using chalks, and to highlight the children I used a blender pen to strengthen the colours.

In the card with just the boy cooking, to give a focal point I printed the image twice and cut the boy out and popped him up on foam tape. I had come across the quote and could not resist using it here. The edges of both the image and the quote were sponged with Tim Holtz distress ink - Tea Dye. The green striped paper was sponged with Memento Bamboo Leaves. The brown layer was also sponged with the Tea Dye ink, and the ribbon and star clip added before being mounted on the dark, Evergreen base card.

The 'window' concept arrived out of the blue, and thankfully it was not too difficult to construct - again because I had given myself time to think things through. The lace I used for the 'curtain' was some I had in my stash, and I found it framed the window perfectly. I mounted the finished window scene on the black for definition, as I find the black can make an image 'pop', and I wanted it to be clearly defined from the background. I left the base of the black card long and placed the wide lace across that, adhered the whole onto the base of craft, having sponged the edges with the Tea Dye ink, which softened the whole look. The black half pearls were added last."
You can see more of Maxine's work at her blog.

Check out Clearly Vintage

I just wanted to let you know I have posted a bunch of B&W images over at Clearly Vintage this week. They are wonderful images from an old seed catalogue. I don't know about you but I am dreaming of a garden this summer. Also here is link to whole group of Peter Henderson seed catalogue covers. They are not B&W but I thought you all would enjoy seeing them. This is a link to the Smithsonian site with over 10,000 seed catalogue images. So make sure you explore the site. You will be in awe. I hope you enjoy. I know I copied dozens before deciding I could alway come back and copy more. Perhaps some of you that are good with graphics could make a few of these into digital stamps for all of us. I think I see a challenge in our future using all of these wonderful catalogue images.
