Holiday Trio Week in Review

Today our guest hostess has made three projects from several of the images previously posted this week.  So I thought we would do a week in review.  Hopefully her amazing projects will inspire you to make a handmade gift for that special person or decorations for your home.  Be sure to post it here in the comments section so we can all see what you create.

Our talented guest hostess today is Willemien Katerberg.  Willemien lives near the shores of lake Huron in Ontario with her husband. Her spare time is spent creatively in paper, hybrid and digital crafts. She started scrapbooking in 2004 and it didn't take long for her to pick up other paper crafts and their digital counterparts. Here is a description of the projects in the artists words.
"I had so much fun working with these images. I created three projects; an altered decorative tile, an altered candle, and a gift box. This Santa image is absolutely amazing. I had fully intended to do a laser copy transfer onto the tile, but of course I procrastinated and I couldn't justify driving through a snowstorm for just one little photocopy, so I printed and adhered tissue paper to the tile which I then coloured. For the candle and the gift box I used the images that were posted in Holiday Trio 6. I printed the Christmas cat image in dark green to match with the card stock use don the box (it's not that noticeable in these pictures) I also used Bookend 2 to wrap around the back of the candle. Over the next few days I will be posting complete details of my projects on my blog for those who would like more information. "

Holiday Trio 7

Today's guest designer is Krisa.  What a trooper!  She had some family issues come up but still made sure that she got her project in to me on time.  Thank you so much Krisa.  Both of her projects are imaginative and beautiful.  Though I needed to hide them from my daughter who still believes in Santa.  I think my daughter knows the presents will stop if she doesn't. 

Here is Krisa's description of her projects in her own words.  "I went with the idea of "gifts for Santa" with my projects. My first thought with these images were traditional old-world European paper cones that are hung on trees as ornaments and often filled with goodies. For both projects I resized and printed the images, colored with watercolor pencils then inked over them with Tim Holtz Distress Ink (lightly) in Antique Linen. The pearlescent paper on the cone was from Club Scrap, as was the green used for embellishment and the holly leaves. The red paper is DCWV. The leaves were punched from an older Quickutz holly photo turn die, and inked with distress ink in Pine Needle. A friend (Colleen - http://crazycrickitt.blogspot.com/) had given me the hand-made roses and they seemed a perfect pairing with the holly leaves and cone, the ribbon is simply from my stash (I think it's offray ...).

The little jar is actually a re-purposed sugar scrub container, but it seemed the perfect size for this elongated Santa image. I used a Spellbinders nestability scalloped circle die for all of the scalloped embellishments on the projects. Ink on the little treat jar (it will be filled with with M&Ms for Santa shortly, from my DD) is Peeled Paint (also distress ink). "

Holiday Trio 6

 Today our guest hostess is Shirley.  She has created a 2 cards using one of the holiday images below.  She has added lots of vintage touches to her cards and beautiful flowers add to the festive look.

Here is her bio  and a description of her artwork in her own words.  "I used to be a neat freak about the house, everything had a place and everything in it's place .... very square, neat and tidy .... really could eat off my floor .... that is, until I found paper, then it all changed. Still love tidy but not nearly as obsessive (truth is I don't have the time anymore) because I have a new obsession paper and embellishments. Everything is second place to this .... except hubby, Penny, children & Grandkids of course. I am one of those people that once I have mastered something I get bored of it very quickly but not so with cardmaking because you can create something completely different with every single piece of paper, and that's what I try to do.

Today is my first experiment with different backgrounds and very pleased with the effect. Took original photo of card resting on a Kay & Co paper , the next image I cut and pasted from the original photo and layered onto a digital background .... really pleased with the effect."

Holiday Trio 5

This season I have been posting three vintage images every few days for you to use in your holiday projects.  Most of these are from the old graphics booklets I have from the early 1920's.  These were used in advertising for furniture stores. 
There will be guest designers making projects using these festive images.  Make sure to check back every few days so you do not miss any of the holiday fun.  Today's guest designer is Yolanda.  She has designed for us before and each time her projects are more and more creative.  This time she has really come up with something special.  A christmas wreath using the candle image above.  Here is Yolanda's description of her beautiful and elegant wreath project. 

"This Christmas wreath has gone green. It was made only with things I had on hand.

• Basic green wreath
• Beaded ponytail holders
• Mesh Drywall Tape
• Wired ribbon
• Tags
• Foam Tape
• 9 images
• Markers
• Gold ink
• Antique Linen Distress Ink
• Green Christmas Tree hangers
• Twine to hang the wreath
Make it:
1. Ink edges of the tags and distress fronts using gold ink
2. Print, color and trim candle images on ivory card stock. Mine are 1.25” wide.
3. Stamp directly on top of each image with Antique Linen Distress Ink
4. Attach images to tags with foam tape
5. LOL--Make bow while watching how-to-video on YouTube
6. Wrap ribbon then mesh tape around the wreath stapling the ends together in back
7. Attach the bow (Everything except the ponytail holders is attached with straightened green ornament          hangers twisted around the wreath)
8. Attach tags
9. Attach ponytail holders
10. Tie twine around the top and hang it up

I am an editor for a non-profit and married with three adult sons. I used to scrapbook a lot and dabbled in card making, but I didn’t become a serious card crafter until this May when I discovered Operation Write Home (operationwritehome.org) while on Facebook. My youngest son was about to deploy with the Army and it was the perfect thing for me to be doing. Now I have a second enlisted son. I’ve enjoyed getting to know people and being a blessing to troops and their families through this great organization. Card making has become a wonderful creative outlet for me. "

Holiday Trio 4

 This week we have three special images for Hanukkah.  I always have such a hard time finding Judaic images but have found an amazing vintage book with great line images called What the Moon Brought by Sadie Rose Weilstein.

Our amazing guest hostess this week is Juliet.  She has created several beautiful Hanukkah projects using this week's images.

Here is a description of her projects in Juliet's own words.

"With the menorah image, I made a little presentation box to gift a set of Hanukkah candles. I have photos of it open and closed.

With the little Maccabee soldier doll, I used the image to decorate a couple of goodie baskets each made from an uncut sheet of 12x12 cardstock. Actually, there is a little story behind these baskets. I was stuck on what to do with my sister yesterday, since she was visiting for the weekend (we were shopped out and tired of baking). I had the base of the pink basket ready, and I printed out a bunch of the images sized to fit, and we sat there coloring different ways for a couple of hours. Finally, I had enough to finish the sides of the pink basket, and my 22yo son came over and immediately rejected the design. He said it didn't hold enough, and I should make a more open design. I told him that I liked the smaller capacity, because it was easier to fill, and he immediately denounced me for being skimpy with my goodies. He came up with the folds for the blue basket, and we put my sister's images on that one. I like that it looks like a little fortress for the soldiers. My sister used Tombow markers with a blender pen for her rich, saturated color, and I used watercolor pencils with Twinkling H2Os for a vintage look with sparkle. My son taste-tested the goodies and approved them for gifting."

Holiday Trio 3

Today I have three more images from children's magazines from the 20's.  They are not line drawings but I just love them to decorate Thanksgiving items.  Perhaps some placecards or votives.  Our guest designer today is Debbie.  Debbie used the images to make this amazing box. I love the addeed touch of buttons to really make the project feel vintage.  Here is here description in her own words.  "I think this could be a perfect box to hold a hostess gift (I'm going to buy a candle for it) or one made up and put at each place with just the boy or girl pilgrim and filled with candy or treats."  Debbie got the template for the box at this site.  Please check our more of Debbie's creative paper projects on her blog The Paper Garden.

Holiday Trio 2

A few more images for Thanksgiving.  The top two are from a vintage collection of images for furniture stores to use in advertising.  They are from the early 1920's.  Many of the holiday images I will be posting for Christmas and Thanksgiving are from this collection.

Holiday Trio 1

So in honor of the upcoming holidays I will be posting three vintage holiday images from old ads and books each week ( and who knows maybe a few in between) and featuring a holiday project designed by a guest designer.  This week's host is Bev and she has created an amazing Thanksgiving centerpiece for us to enjoy.  She has really captured the spirit of the holiday with this festive holiday/ Fall centerpiece. 

Here is her bio in her own words. "I am just new to online scrapping since Apr 2009. There are so many sites. My name is Bev Code and I have been scrapping about 3+ years. I am a wife, mother and gramma that loves being retired and now have time to scrap to my heart's content. I did albums for the whole family for Xmas 2009. I live in Conestogo, Ontario and spend some time in Florida where I take my scrapping with me for the extended time.

My project is for Thanksgiving. My wicker basket filled with fun fall coloured fruit and leaves is a great table centre piece. I used the fabulous digital image "native american" and the Celebrate sentiment. She was perfect for the Celebration Tag and the Place Cards. I got to use all the amazing fall colours to copic colour the images. I used cricut to cut the double layered tag...added a few more layers for colour. The Kreaxions Punch #803 was the perfect floral accent, add some brads and ribbon. The finished project is perfect to Celebrate and give Thanks at this time of year."

I am looking for a few guest designers for Digital Two for Tuesday.  This time the call has a little different twist for the holidays.  I would like the designers to create a project/present for the holidays such as an ornament, collage,album or other 3D project.  The theme is listed next to the date.  I will give you two new images plus you can use any of the images previously posted.

Digital Two for Tueday 71

The images from this week are from the book Yourself and Your House Wonderful from 1913 by H.A. Guerber.

This week I have the pleasure to share with you the amazing of another international paper artist Pia. I love the bright colors she used to color in these images and all the beautiful vintage touches she has added to her work.  Her is her bio in her own words.  " My name is Pia Lehtinen and I am 53 years old. I live in beautiful Lapland in northern Sweden. I have been making cards since 2006 and I really love it. I have had a lot of hobbies before, like sewing my own clothes and making jewelry, but I don't have any time for it now, since I just make cards nowadays. I just can't help it. Description of my cards: I printed the images with my laser printer and coloured them with distresser inks and Tombow brush pens.

On the card with the girl and the baby I used paper from Webster's Pages (love them all) and decorated with a satin bow, a moon charm and some pearly swirls.

On the second card I used some flowery paper which I got from a friend, I then decorated with some mulberry roses which I have made myself, and a beautiful handmade lace and some velvet ribbon. I also put some pearls in the corners. The ticket says in translation: My best friend."
